From its opening lines, this novel unfolds as a compelling and layered story about ambition, identity and the consequences of public perception. Jivan, a young Muslim woman from a low-income neighborhood, hopes to build a better future for herself. After a brief comment she posts on social media is misinterpreted, she is accused of involvement in a terrorist attack on a train. At the same time, PT Sir, an optimistic gym teacher, aligns himself with a rising political party and discovers that his own ambitions have become intertwined with Jivan’s misfortune.
