Water Safety Session 1: Introduction to Water Safety + Swim as a Pair with a Lifeguard There
Red Cross Longfellow's WHALE Tales is a dynamic water safety program designed to educate children about the importance of water safety through engaging storytelling and interactive activities. With a focus on making learning enjoyable, the program aims to instill essential water safety skills in young learners, empowering them to confidently navigate aquatic environments.

Lesson 1: Introduction to Water Safety

Objectives:
- Introduce children to the concept of water safety and its importance.
- Familiarize participants with key water safety rules and guidelines.
- Encourage children to identify safe vs. unsafe behaviors around water.

Activities:
- Storytime with Longfellow, featuring tales that illustrate safety concepts.
- Interactive discussions where kids can share their experiences and ask questions.
- A fun quiz game to reinforce learning points and gauge retention.

Lesson 2: Swim as a Pair with a Lifeguard There

Objectives:
- Understand that staying safer in the water takes a team of lifeguards, capable adult water watchers, a water buddy and oneself.
- Explain the unique roles played by lifeguards and capable adult water watchers in the supervision of water activities.
- Understand why it’s important to learn how to swim

Activities:
- Group discussions focused on identifying lifeguards or capable adult water watchers
- Role-playing scenarios about having a water buddy
- Creative arts activity: drawing their water safety team.
