About This Lecture

Fishing for tarpon is one of the longest-standing tourist traditions in Sarasota County. Long before our area became famous for its cultural institutions and its stunning beaches, people from around the world came to Sarasota and Venice for a chance to hook a “silver king.” The immense popularity of tarpon fishing in the early 20th century shaped the development of Sarasota County in ways that are still visible today. Join Dr. Josh Goodman, manager of the Sarasota County History Center, for a true “fish story” about this chapter of our local history.
