Program Description

What makes a great work of art and/or music?

Pianist Alan Wasserman and painter Midge Johnson present a program on the ‘elements’ of music and art that are used to create, discuss, and evaluate creations.

This one hour presentation includes music by Beethoven, Chopin, Zez Confrey and others while Midge creates a painting live.  Alan and Midge alternate speaking between each musical piece, sharing interesting anecdotes that guide the listener to a greater understanding of the elements and connections of art and music!

Alan Wasserman is a lifelong teacher/performer who plays many styles of music.  He has performed in China, Russia, Britain and Europe, as well as US colleges, museums, libraries and New York City’s Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Midge Johnson is a noted abstract expressionist, non-representational, mixed media painter.  She exhibits at the Mara Studio + Gallery in Sarasota, and at her own studio in Osprey, Florida.  Her paintings are held in personal collections in the continental USA, Puerto Rico and the UK.
