Program Description

Off the Page Literary Celebration

The Off the Page Literary Celebration, hosted by Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, features bestselling authors, writing workshops, book signings, and more during the month of November. All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources locations participate. Events are also held at partner locations like Ringling College of Art and Design, or other offsite locations.

The History Center presents author Isaac Eger discussing his book "The Great Florida Cattle Drive." Isaac Eger is a Sarasota native and writer whose stories have appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Magazine and Sarasota Magazine. He traveled the world from Cuba to India to Tibet playing pick up basketball until he realized Florida was the most interesting place in the world and has since dedicated his efforts to spreading the Florida gospel to anyone who will listen. The latest book chronicles the 500th anniversary of the Great Florida Cattle Drive with gorgeous photos and evocative writing about ranching history and the importance of preserving Florida’s beautiful open land.

Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the Jacarlene Foundation. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the Jacarlene Foundation.
