Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources announces "An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us” by Pulitzer Prize-winning Ed Yong as the 2024 "One Book, One Community” selection.
The Earth is teeming with sights and textures, sounds and vibrations, smells and tastes, electric and magnetic fields. The author explains that every kind of animal, including humans, is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble, perceiving but a tiny sliver of our immense world.
In “An Immense World” author Ed Yong encourages each of us to go beyond what we think we know, in order to better understand ourselves and the world around us. By studying how different species process and respond to stimuli, the reader can appreciate the unique sensory experiences of animals, expanding their understanding of how the animal lives. Yong’s book helps readers gain a deeper appreciation for the diversity of wildlife and the vastness of the world we live in.
Ed Yong is a Pulitzer Prize–winning writer on the staff of The Atlantic, where he also won the George Polk Award, among other honors. His first book, “I Contain Multitudes”, was a New York Times bestseller and won numerous awards. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, National Geographic, Wired, The New York Times, Scientific American, and more. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Liz Neeley, and their corgi, Typo.
This program is part of the 2024 One Book One Community program, which chose “An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us” by Pulitzer Prize-winning Ed Yong as the 2024 "One Book, One Community” selection.
