Join Florida Humanities and the Selby Library to celebrate the release of Once Upon a Time in Florida: Stories of Life in the Land of Promises.

The new book marks Florida Humanities' 50th anniversary with a collection of 50 timeless stories curated from the archives of FORUM, the award-winning magazine of Florida Humanities. As part of a statewide book tour, Jacki Levine, the anthology’s editor, reunites with scholars and writers whose stories were selected to appear in this richly-illustrated coffee table book. At our fourth stop in Sarasota, the conversation will center around Florida as a state of inspiration. Panelists will explore how Florida has been a muse for great literary and artistic minds, as well as what it means to write engaging historic stories for a modern audience.

The panel will include:

• Jacki Levine, "Once Upon a Time in Florida" editor and former FORUM magazine editor

• Maurice J. O’Sullivan, Award-winning teacher, writer, and filmmaker; the Kenneth Curry Professor of Literature, emeritus, at Rollins College; and president of the Florida Historical Society.

• Craig Pittman, Award-winning journalist; New York Times-bestselling author of several books; and co-host of the Welcome to Florida podcast.

A reception of coffee, tea, and light snacks will precede the program at 10 a.m. Books will be available for purchase as well as book signings from the panelists.

Parking at the library is city-run and there is a two-hour limit.
