The town of Venice, Florida was incorporated in 1926, but the history of its settlement stretches back much farther and involves a whole cast of fascinating characters. Join Dr. Josh Goodman, manager of the Sarasota County History Center, for a closer look at the unique origins of this vibrant Gulf coast community.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Josh Goodman is the manager of the Sarasota County History Center, which holds an extensive collection of artifacts, archival records, and other resources documenting the history and culture of Sarasota County and Southwest Florida. Josh is a sixth-generation Floridian, educated at Florida State University in Tallahassee and Tulane University in New Orleans. Before taking the helm at the History Center, Josh spent six years as the Archives Historian at the State Archives of Florida, and he has also worked for the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. He has authored articles on a variety of Florida history topics, as well as a book on the history of Taylor County, Florida.
