Florida-Friendly Landscaping™: Planting Trees for the Suncoast

Primary tabs

Program Description

Details

The Suncoast region lost substantial amounts of trees due to Hurricane Ian and Idalia. As we replant our urban and residential properties, let us be mindful of what we plant. Avoid nuisance invasive plants and weak-limbed trees, and instead focus on Florida-friendly and wind resistant trees. Join this class to learn about the trees that thrive in our Suncoast region, with an emphasis on native trees, flowering Florida-friendly trees, and edible fruit/nut trees. Find out which tree is right for your location, how to plant it, and how to care for it. Upon completion of the hour-long presentation, participants will receive a native tree sapling for their landscape.

Registration at Eventbrite.com is required and limited to 35 attendees. A small service fee of $3.00 will be charged to reserve a tree. The service fee is to encourage people who reserve a native sapling (valued at ~$20) to attend the class. The trees are stressed when transported, and we want them to go to good homes. If this cost is a barrier for you to attend the class, please contact Forest Hecker by email at fhecker@scgov.net .
