America's Storyteller: Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was a 20th-century American painter, illustrator, and commercial artist. His works enjoy broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for his 324 Saturday Evening Post magazine covers. For over five decades he helped Americans cope with wars, economic disasters, disappointments, and grief. He did so with a compassionate heart and a humorous outlook. His greatest contribution, which is often unnoticed, is that he was a gentle humanitarian who “made every one of us better people.”

Through her company, Miller Music and Fine Arts Programs, Baila Miller has been presenting college level courses that explore the role of literature, paintings, architecture, sculpture, cinema, and photography as well as orchestral and operatic influences in the development of European and modern American culture. Ms. Miller has taught or is currently teaching at The University of Memphis, Road Scholar International, ACE Adult & Community Enrichment, Longboat Key Education Center, The Venice Art Center, Historic Spanish Point, and The Ringling College of Art & Design.
