This lecture takes us from stolen art in ancient history to contemporary events like robberies of American collections and European museums. A look at the Nazis, modern history’s biggest art thieves, includes their sinister methodology and contemporary repatriation efforts. The presentation is nicely illustrated with art images all stolen art. The lecture provides a meaningful background to review important artistic movements in history. It is based in part on the books “ Lost and Stolen” by Ivan Lindsey, “ The rape of Europa” by Lynn Nichols, The Monuments Men by Robert M. Edsel and “Stolen” by Jonathan Webb.
