Immerse yourself in the WebbVR experience

Presenters: Sam Silverman (Virtual Reality Developer) and Quyen Hart, Ph.D. (Senior Outreach Scientist)

Event Description: Come explore black holes, stars, disks, exoplanets and the Solar System with the future James Webb Space Telescope – all in virtual reality! Our speakers will guide us on a tour of the fully immersive WebbVR environment, describing the different places you can visit in this awe-inspiring experience. Ask them questions about the technology of WebbVR and how Webb’s infrared-light perception will advance our exploration of the cosmos. No virtual reality equipment required for the event.

NASA Ambassador Linda McKenna coordinated this program, and invited NASA professionals to present this information!

Samuel D Silverman is a Virtual Reality Developer at Space Telescope Science Institute. He works primarily developing WebbVR utilizing his programming, design and graphical skills. Sam graduated from the University of Baltimore studying "Simulation and Digital Entertainment", which is just another fancy way of saying video game design. Sam believes that play and learning go hand in hand, and that educational games can lead to rich learning experiences. When Sam isn't developing VR you can most likely find him in a field of watermelons playing banjo.

Dr. Quyen Hart is a Senior Education and Outreach Scientist in the Office of Public Outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), where she works on various aspects of NASA’s Universe of Learning and other educational projects related to the Hubble, Webb, and Roman space telescope missions. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she studied active super-massive black holes in clusters of galaxies. For more than two decades, Dr. Hart has been actively involved in formal and informal astronomy education, providing unique learning experiences for people of all ages. She is passionate about sharing the wonders of astronomy and science to the general public because she knows that everyone can be a scientist!
