Sharks and Fossil Digging!

Join nationally recognized shark tooth expert Dr. Ashley Oliphant as she offers an interactive fossil experience at the North Port Library. Dr. Oliphant's book, "Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast," has sold more than 15,000 copies, and in this presentation, she will share all of her shark tooth hunting secrets. Participants will learn about how fossils form, as well as how to identify fossil shark teeth by species. The program includes an interactive show-and-tell that will allow audience members to hold megalodon teeth and small dinosaur fossils. The event culminates with a fossil dig. Participants will dig through the sand to find fossils, shark teeth, and seashells that they can take home with them. Dr. Oliphant will assist in identification of species during the activity.
