Program Description

Details

Join nationally recognized shark tooth and shelling expert Dr. Ashley Oliphant for an awesome interactive children's workshop that will teach participants how to hunt, where to hunt, and how to identify species. The session will include show-and-tell of shark, whale, and dinosaur fossils, along with many species of seashells. The group will learn about how fossils are formed and explore what it means to be a responsible beachcomber who protects wildlife and preserves the natural environment. The program will conclude with a 10-minute fossil dig, and attendees will get to keep the seashells and shark teeth that they find. Afterward, Dr. Oliphant will be available to sign her book, "Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast," take questions from the audience, and open her pop-up fossil shop which includes fossils from all over the country. If you already own a copy of her book, please bring it to the session because she will be delighted to autograph it for you.
