Presenter: Captain Daniel E. Getty, Operations Officer, U.S. Space Force

Capt. Getty will be providing a brief lesson on space propulsion, to include both chemical rockets and ion-based propulsion systems. He will discuss the fundamentals of space propulsion, as well as its history and possible future. He will also touch on the U.S. Space Force, how it came to be and how it affects our daily lives.

 

Presenter Bio:

Captain Daniel Getty is the U.S. Operations Officer, Space Assurance Training, Test, and Evaluation Unit, RAF Waddington, United Kingdom. He is second-in-command of a nine-person detachment responsible for the training and evaluation of 47 coalition personnel.

Capt. Getty grew up in Quaker Hill, Connecticut, graduating from Waterford High School. Soon after, he chased a lifelong affinity for science to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study Aerospace Engineering. While at MIT, he was also a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. In June 2016, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and Physics, and a commission into the United States Air Force.

Following his undergraduate studies, Capt. Getty stayed at MIT, serving in the Air Force Reserves while he conducted his graduate studies. In September 2018, he earned his Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, with a focus in Space Propulsion. He immediately entered active duty with the U.S. Air Force, eventually transferring to the U.S. Space Force in September 2020.
