North Port Friends of Wildlife Present:

Guest Speaker Dan Quinn: “An Incipient Population of Invasive Lizards in Charlotte County: The Argentine Black and White Tegu”

In this presentation we will discuss invasive wildlife ecology and how the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Nonnative Program functions to mitigate non-native wildlife issues. We will focus on a case study of a high priority non-native reptile with an emergent population in rural Punta Gorda: the Argentine black and white tegu (Salvator merianae).  In addition to tegus, there are also a wide variety of other high priority and/or uncommon reptile species that have been found in the same area as the tegus in Punta Gorda.
