Local Color: Gathering Across Color, Creed, and Ideology
"Our lives begin to end when we stop talking about things that matter." - Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
Deep in our hearts we know that if we're going to ever "live out the true meaning of our creed, that all men are created equal" it will be something that happens between us day to day - in the places we live, in the lives we lead, in the actions we take and the decisions we make - large and small. Imagine if in times of crisis, instead of separating, we gathered? In association with the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Mainstreet exhibit "Voices and Votes" we're taking the opportunity to launch a new series called Local Color - where we come to know each other better around issues of race. We imagine an idea-generating, deeply real (possibly even joyful) Hamilton-inspired Technicolor town hall about race in our community.
This is the first program of three in a series with the future dates to be determined.
This program will take place through Zoom Webinar. To register this program click here.
The "Voices & Votes: Democracy in America” exhibit and related programming are brought to you by Florida Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution. We would also like to thank the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their generous support of this initiative and the Pulitzer Prizes for their partnership. Local support has been provided by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
