Sarasota County’s superb libraries are fixtures of the community, but the road to their success is something truly out of the pages of a storybook. There are now ten branch libraries and a history center in our library system, each with unique origin stories. One library started in an elementary school; another one started in a corner of the Woman’s Club; and yet another started in the upstairs room of a business block. One library even started out its life in a residential home that was retrofitted for the purpose! Join Sarasota County History Center Manager Dr. Josh Goodman for a closer look at the history of our libraries, as well as the leadership, dedication, and hard work of the people who made them possible. The program will feature a display of historical photographs and documents from the History Center’s collection.
