Liz Coursen is the award-winning author of Shade in the Sunshine State: Reflections on Segregation in Florida. In this 60-minute PowerPoint lecture, she will discuss the groundbreaking and wildly successful inter-religious, inter-racial collaboration between Booker T. Washington, esteemed educator, bestselling author, and principal of the Tuskegee Institute, and Julius Rosenwald, Chicago philanthropist and CEO of Sears, Roebuck. The collaboration between Washington and Rosenwald would result in the building of more than 5400 schools from Maryland to Texas, 180 of which were built in Florida and one—one—was built in Sarasota County.
