“The Father of Magical Realism”

This presentation given by local Professor Anastasia Bojanowski, will look at Gabriel García Márquez’s unique style of Magical Realism, which was influenced by his grandmother’s ghost stories, his grandfather’s military service during the civil war, and his career as an international journalist.  The talk will discuss the “hopeless romantic” view found in Love in the Time of Cholera and the epic tale of one family’s saga in One Hundred Years of Solitude.  Finally, the talk will look at García Márquez’s wicked sense of humor that can both delight and disparage simultaneously.
