Program Description

Join Florida Humanities for a special viewing and behind the scenes discussion of Rising: Surviving the Surge

This new documentary from public media station WGCU is a compelling film that examines the human and environmental toll of Hurricane Ian on Florida’s Suncoast.

Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities, Florida Humanities, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the film draws on powerful oral histories and first-hand accounts to illuminate the storm’s lasting impact. Through personal narratives and community voices, the documentary underscores the importance of preparedness, public safety and the awe-inspiring force of nature.

Stick around after the movie for a panel discussion that will explore Florida’s long and complex relationship with hurricanes.
