This is a hybrid event! In the Jacaranda meeting room, you will be able to watch the livestream as the talk happens at the Elling Eide Center.
Join us to participate in a talk discussing "one of two surviving letters written in Timucua, the Native language of much of North Florida." Presented by the Elling Eide Center, Anthropology Professor George Aaron Broadwell will discuss how modern linguistic technology made it possible to translate the Jesus Maria letter, describe what the Jesus Maria letter is, and also discuss how these techniques can lead to creating a dictionary and grammar of the Timucua language, despite the fact that it has not been spoken for at least 200 years.
This talk is a great opportunity to learn about a historic Native American artifact during National Native American Heritage Month!
