Program held from 2PM - 3PM

About This Lecture

For centuries, builders have found creative ways to account for Florida's climate and environmental conditions in their designs, evidence of which is still visible today if you know where to look! Join Dr. Josh Goodman, manager of the Sarasota County History Center, and Jorge Danta Spector, Sarasota County Historic Preservation Specialist, for a closer look at how Florida’s unique environment has influenced its architecture over the years.

About This Series

Florida lives in most American imaginations as a place with sunny weather, luxurious beachfront homes and endless fun and ease. The reality isn’t too far from that, but there are some trade-offs. Florida’s climate can be hot, humid and stormy at times, not to mention the occasional threat of thunderstorms, hurricanes and forest fires. Inhabitants of Florida have had to learn to combat, live with, learn from, and weather the natural environment and natural disasters throughout the history of our state.

This Spring, join the Sarasota County History Center while expert speakers and staff explore the enthralling history of how Floridians have tamed nature.
