Join retired petroleum engineer Bob Paredi as he discusses the run-up to and aftermath of the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf of Mexico. In this fast-paced and lavishly illustrated hour-long PowerPoint program, Bob will talk about how U.S. oil and gas leases are allotted in the Gulf, efforts by previous administrations to open up the Eastern Seaboard to drilling, and the challenges the country faces as we try to strike a balance between our energy needs and protecting our fragile environment.

Bob’s career with Standard Oil (now ExxonMobil), which began in Venezuela in the late ’50s, gives him a unique perspective about Deepwater Horizon specifically and the oil/gas industry as a whole. What happened at Deepwater, its short and long-term impact on the industry, governmental regulations, the environment, and what it all means, especially to Florida—these topics and more will be discussed during this timely presentation.

Bob, who lives in Savannah, is the author of 2021’s The American Legacy of an Italian Motorcyclist, his first book.
