Program Description

Details

Known around the world as the author of the Black Stallion book series, Walter Farley found inspiration and a second home in Venice. His deep ties to the literary community and his desire to inspire children made his passion for local libraries clear to those who knew him. In fact, Walter and Rosemary Farley were among some of the earliest advocates for creating the first Venice Public Library and the Friends of the Venice Library. From public awareness to fundraising, the Farleys and other community members illustrated the ardent desire of Venice residents for a library of their own. Today, the Venice Public Library houses the Walter Farley Literary Landmark - an honor for both the community of Venice and for Sarasota County as a whole.

Join us in support of the Walter Farley Literary Landmark. Thanks to the generosity of the Farley family, the Friends of the Venice Public Library, will be selling books from the private library of Walter and Rosemary Farley. All the proceeds from this book sale will support the Walter Farley Literary Landmark.

Saturday, May 8th from 10-2,

in front of the library. It will be a “Fill the Bag for $5” sale.

Don't forget to head into the library and check out the Walter Farley display.
