Friends of the Selby Public Library invites you to their monthly book presentation and discussion. This month:
This presentation will trace Zora Neale Hurston’s roots in Eatonville, Florida, her work as an anthropologist, her participation in the Harlem Renaissance, and her body of literature. Hurston’s short stories and novels will be mapped in the various locations of Florida with an accompanying timeline. The talk will discuss the role of folktales in her writing, as well as local Florida “tall tales.” Finally, the influence of her travels throughout the Caribbean will be discussed, including her attendance at a “voodoo” ritual, at which she learned the secret ingredient for the creation of a zombie.
