Program Description

Details

Join Sari to learn basic Sumi-e strokes and express the beauty of nature as a black-and-white landscape painting. Sumi-e is a traditional Japanese ink painting technique that emphasizes simplicity, fluidity, and the essence of the subject rather than its detailed representation. Practitioners use a few carefully placed brushstrokes to capture the spirit and energy of a scene, often depicting natural elements like mountains, rivers, trees, and wildlife.

Sari Fujimaru is an experienced teaching artist trained by the Arts and Alliance of Sarasota County. She has taught K-12 grade students in Florida, North Carolina, New York and Texas since 2005. Her work was featured in prominent media, including PBS and Herald Tribune. Greg Steube, Florida House Representative, praised Sari as "not only talented but determined to instill a passion for art in the next generation."

Registration is required and limited to 25 participants.

Sponsored by the Friends of Elsie Quirk Library.
