The Asolo Repertory Theatre Players present Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women, this year's One Book One Community choice by author Kate Moore.
Drawn from diaries, letters, court transcripts, and interviews with relatives, this is the true account of the young American women who, in 1917, flocked to work painting watch dials, clocks, and military dials with a luminous substance made from radium. The high-paying seemingly glamorous work led to a dark, tragic fate for these women, their friends and families. Moore's telling, deeply disturbing and heartbreaking, uncovers a dark period of corporate history in the United States and beyond.
